Underwater + Adventure Photography Sessions – Richmond, VA

Portrait Session – Doswell, VA

Jenna contacted me last year to book a family session with her best friend Tenney to document their bond after some trying times.  She loves cherry blossoms, so we scheduled her during their peak bloom on our farm in Doswell, VA.  The weather was beautiful, Tenney was full of energy, and we had the best time giggling at his many expressions and antics.  Jenna’s metal grouping turned out absolutely breathtaking.  The reclaimed barn wood frames that we selected to compliment her chosen images were stunning too.  One of my favorite pieces to date so far!  You can see a quick cell pic I posted to my Facebook page from when I received her order.  I couldn’t resist because it was just so perfect!  Here is a quick peek at a few highlights from their family portrait session.

Mommy + Me Session – Doswell, VA

I had a few absolutely amazing sessions while our cherry blossom was in full bloom and we had some gorgeous weather to go along with it, thankfully!  I had so much fun chasing the light with this session, and this sweet little girl just adored the “princess dresses” she got to borrow from my client closet!  I created a little video to go along with this session also (viewable here).  Try not to smile or tear up thinking about your own children and how fast they grow!  It’s impossible!

Mommy & Me Session – Doswell, VA

It’s always been such a wonderful and privileged feeling to watch my repeat clients’ little ones grow up over the years.  I got to work with one of my favorite families again recently, and it is just amazing how fast time goes when you have children!  There are really no words to describe how happy it makes me to have clients come back year after year, because I really enjoy watching these kids grow up so much.

I had the honor of photographing this beautiful mama and her boys again at my farm in Doswell, and it was the. best. day.  Beautiful weather with some gorgeous sunshine after all the rain we’ve been having, and we just went on a walk and had FUN!  I’ve been incorporating short video clips into my sessions to further document these sweet little memories, and am pleased to offer this new service for my upcoming sessions.  If you haven’t watched their clip yet, hop on over to my Facebook page and check it out!

One Year Session – Beaverdam, VA

I’ve been photographing the Hollender family for years now, and did this adorable little girl’s newborn pictures last summer!  Look how big she is now!  Her mama and I collaborated on styling for this session.  I found the perfect little dress with a beautiful lace back, and we incorporated the headband she wore in her newborn photos for a familiar touch and to showcase her growth.  They wanted some pictures of their amazingly sweet older dog as well, and we got some really lovable, soulful portraits of him, as well as some heart warming pictures of the two of them together.  I’m so excited to see their final images in print form for their gallery wall!

Teen Session – Doswell, VA

I had the pleasure of photographing Ashby’s sister’s over the summer (view their amazing ballerina unicorn session here), and I was over the moon to be asked to photograph Ashby in his element.  This country-inspired session was photographed on my farm in Doswell (just north of Richmond, VA), and we were able to bring to life Ashby’s current interests, personality, mannerisms– everything a mama would want to remember years from now.  I LOVE the way these turned out and we had some absolutely beautiful light to end the session with!

Sibling Session – Doswell, VA

I don’t usually shoot at high noon, but the other afternoon my kids were driving me a little batty.  We decided to have an “adventure” and I brought out my camera to play a little myself.  We set up a little play tent in the pasture and giggled, skipped, and rolled around in the dirt (yes, me too… ever seen me shoot?  Haha).

I hope that when my kids reminisce about their childhood, they remember magic, laughter, wonder, and the love in these little moments.  They’re growing up so, so fast.

Senior Session – Doswell, VA

I had the best time meeting and getting to know Katie during her senior session on my farm (in Doswell, just north of Richmond, VA)!  Her session was full of giggles and sunshine, which seems to be pretty complementary to Katie’s personality.  We did some joyous, fun, youthful portraits, as well as some more serious headshot-style portraits.  I think it’s really important to capture different aspects of my subjects’ personalities– especially at this age, when adolescents are growing into responsible adults.  It’s so important to capture their youth and childhood sparkle before it’s gone.  It really does go by in the blink of an eye.  I can’t wait to see what amazing things Katie does!

Family Session – Assateague Island

When I got notice that one of my favorite photographers was holding a workshop, hosted by my favorite camera bag designer, and on Assateague Island, of all places (!!!), I jumped at the chance to join in.  Twyla Jones is a FL photographer and specializes in creating really emotional portraits that showcases the love and connection between families; something that I strive to exhibit in my own family portrait work.  This workshop was hosted by The House of Flynn, which is a company whose brilliant designer creates the cutest and most practical camera bags.  She provided us some awesome goodies and I had such the most incredible experience with photographers from all over the country.  We had THE coolest family ever to photograph, and their chemistry was so captivating.  Here are just a few of the images from their session.  (You can click on each one to view them larger.  So worth it!)

Family Session – Doswell, VA

This family session took place on my farm on a day that was 105 degrees!  We decided to push through, and I’m so glad we did.  Valerie and Hans are dog trainers and own a kennel in Richmond.  They wanted to include ALL of their babies in their family session.  It was a little tricky to get everyone positioned at times, but we made it work and I absolutely adore all the images from this session.  We had so much fun running around, being goofy, and because of the extreme heat, we decided to create our own little rain shower and allow their sweet daughter to dance in the “rain”.  The sunlight in these photographs is so gorgeous, but the love you see radiating from this family is even brighter.
