Family Portrait Session – Richmond, VA

We photographed this beautiful family session on what might have gone down as the Windiest Day Ever in the history books for RVA. This actually ended up working out perfectly because I absolutely LOVED the movement the wind gave their hair, and we got some amazing laughs when a big gust of wind practically blew us across the courtyard. As a family photographer, it is my job to find out what you want out of each session. It was super important to Casey and Laura that we photographed their son’s adorable toothless smile to capture this milestone in his life. Clyde’s silly, mischievous personality led the way for plenty of laughs and grins and we were able to capture so many moments of fun, but also so many moments of tenderness and the strong bond he shares with his parents, whom he so obviously adores. Take a look at some of the highlights from this sweet family session in RVA!

Family Session at the River – Gwynns Island, VA

I have the honor of photographing this gorgeous family a couple times a year so they can update their wall portraits and preserve the memories of their children growing up.  When we were thinking about what we wanted to do for this particular session, I suggested we go to their family’s river house where they spend a lot of time swimming, crabbing, and making memories every summer.  I am so glad we did because I had the BEST time photographing these sweet kids playing in a place that is super special to them.   It makes me so happy that they will have these fun and authentic photographs to look back on when they are older and reminiscing about their childhood.

Family Session – Assateague Island

When I got notice that one of my favorite photographers was holding a workshop, hosted by my favorite camera bag designer, and on Assateague Island, of all places (!!!), I jumped at the chance to join in.  Twyla Jones is a FL photographer and specializes in creating really emotional portraits that showcases the love and connection between families; something that I strive to exhibit in my own family portrait work.  This workshop was hosted by The House of Flynn, which is a company whose brilliant designer creates the cutest and most practical camera bags.  She provided us some awesome goodies and I had such the most incredible experience with photographers from all over the country.  We had THE coolest family ever to photograph, and their chemistry was so captivating.  Here are just a few of the images from their session.  (You can click on each one to view them larger.  So worth it!)

Family Session – Doswell, VA

This family session took place on my farm on a day that was 105 degrees!  We decided to push through, and I’m so glad we did.  Valerie and Hans are dog trainers and own a kennel in Richmond.  They wanted to include ALL of their babies in their family session.  It was a little tricky to get everyone positioned at times, but we made it work and I absolutely adore all the images from this session.  We had so much fun running around, being goofy, and because of the extreme heat, we decided to create our own little rain shower and allow their sweet daughter to dance in the “rain”.  The sunlight in these photographs is so gorgeous, but the love you see radiating from this family is even brighter.

Lifestyle photos – Vacation in Rodanthe, NC

I’ve been gearing up for the busy fall season and trying to put together my annual mini session event, and it’s making me already miss summer!  And it’s barely September!  So today’s blog post is a throw back to our beach vacation earlier this summer in Rodanthe.  I always want to remember all the little mundane details that make up our lives, so I hauled my camera with us to the pizzeria down the street and made sure to capture all the little details and mannerisms of my little humans.  Little wrist rolls, long eye lashes, the way she holds her cups, the way he curiously studies everything…  I’ll remember 🙂
