I shot Joe & Liz’s engagement photos last summer and was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their big day.  The time finally arrived for their wedding, and it was a gorgeous event…. fun but elegant, and at a unique venue, The First Lady of Suffolk, in Suffolk, Virginia.

We eyed the weather all afternoon and crossed our fingers, and although it poured during the ceremony (which was in a church, thankfully), it stopped raining just in time for everyone to enjoy the outdoor seating areas at the reception venue, and we were able to get some portraits of the bridal party outdoors as well.

It was a beautiful day and I’m so happy for the newlyweds!  I hope you guys enjoy this small peek at their big day.

With summer in full swing, it’s a great opportunity to get your family portraits updated!  If you’re going on vacation this year, it really is the perfect to get some updated images of your brood all together.  I travel all over and would love to capture some beautiful pictures of your family on the beach, in the mountains, wherever you may be!  I love working in new locations and my sessions are fully planned out in advance so everyone knows what to wear, what we’ll be doing, what types of images we are shooting for, etc.  That way no one is left feeling uncertain about the session.

If you’d like to schedule your summer portrait session, please e-mail me using the contact form on this website (anikacolombo@gmail.com) and we will plan out an amazing session that fits your family’s style and personalities perfectly!

Newsome wedding – Ashland, VA

While I’m catching up on blog posts… Sherri and Dennis’ got married over the summer at the Hanover Country Club in Ashland, VA.  This sweet couple had a special request before the ceremony– they wanted to pray together but not see each other.  We scouted around and found a wall where they could stand so Dennis could not see any part of her dress.  Their first look as she came down the aisle was worth it, as they were both beaming ear to ear.  Here are some highlights from their special day!

This fall has been such a crazy season for me and I am so thankful to all of my clients for keeping me busy!  I’ve loved every second of every session and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of my … Continue reading

Jocelyn + Robert’s farm wedding │ Beaverdam, VA

Jocelyn and Robert came to me through a referral and I was so excited to do their engagement photos and also photograph their wedding.  They’re a fun couple, and the first time I met them, they told me they were … Continue reading

Kristin + Josh’s farm Wedding │ Ashland, VA

I have known Kristen for awhile through our horses, and I did some engagement pictures for her and her then-fiance, Josh.  It was such an honor to photograph their wedding last month.  They chose to get married at her parent’s home in Ashland,Virginia.  It was a beautiful setting and they got married underneath a breathtaking archway that her father built, surrounded by trees, and all their loved ones, and their horses in the barn and pasture right behind them.

The wedding color was a pretty aqua, and a lot of the details were homemade, DIY.  I love seeing the visions people have come to life for the final product.  I also thought it was so cool that she used freshly picked flowers from the yard to put in her hair.

I always get a picture of the groom’s reaction as he is watching his bride walk down the aisle for the first time.  I love watching their face, and I love watching the emotion flicker across.

The ceremony was beautiful (and HOT!) and Kristen, of course, had to have a few photos with her horses.  The horses had bowties.  BOW TIES.  HORSE BOW TIES.  Ahhhhh.

I wish Kristen and Josh the best.  Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph your special day!

I have been super anxious to tell everyone but had to wait until they made the official announcement… but the photo session I did the other day of my brother was actually a PROPOSAL!  He had me ask them to model for me so I could “try out some new gear”.  He was so worried about her catching on, so he tried to throw her off a few times during the session.  I was trying so hard not to laugh.

I brought little chalkboards to try to keep it fun, interesting, and candid.  These were their portraits of each other.  LOL.

Then he suggested writing something sweet to try to throw her off his scent.  He was very convincing.  She said later she thought that might be it.

And then… while we were shooting in the woods, my husband secretly set up an easel with a super cute frame my brother made with sweet momentos… the napkin and check from their first date, a photo of them together, and a heartfelt message.

It took several minutes to try to lead her over to the area where it was setup, which is a hilarious story in itself.  Anyways, here is the proposal!

She said no!  Just kidding, she said yes and I am so psyched for them!  We are all so excited to welcome her to the family and I am so, so honored that they allowed me to be there to photograph this special moment.

I’ve been keeping busy adjusting to our new life as a family of four.  It’s been rough and I’ve felt a little crazy some days, but it’s awesome.  Every day is something new.  I’ve got lots of fun stuff coming up on the photography front.  My summer calendar has been booking up steadily with weddings, family sessions, and random events.  I am trying to find a good time to run a couple of mini-sessions before it gets too miserable outside.  Just waiting on a few things before I announce any more details.

Here are just a couple photos I’ve taken in the last couple of days.

It has been a busy summer/fall season for me.  I’ve learned a ton of new tricks and have been trying to play around with new techniques.  It’s been fun!  But my poor, poor neglected blog, ha.  Also had this awesome lady come visit me and help me second shoot a wedding!  We’re such goobers… took this photo in a mirror after the wedding reception.  I wish she lived closer to me so I had a permanent photo buddy!

Here are a couple photos from some weddings I’ve been keeping myself busy with this fall.  I love photographing weddings.  I love seeing people so happy and I love being able to capture memories from one of the happiest days of their lives.

I will have some more photos posted soon!  Make sure you become a fan of my Facebook page to receive updates!  This month I have two big events going on for holiday photos.  I am offering mini-sessions in Mechanicsville as well as Doswell, so check my page for details!  It’s a great deal, fun for the kids, and a great way to get photos for your holiday cards!

I took little Trent’s 6 month photos last weekend.  His parents have opted to take advantage of my Baby’s First Year package, which includes a photo session at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months old.  I SO enjoy the babies I am lucky enough to photograph on a regular basis.  I love watching them grow up and I love knowing that years from now, they will be looking back on these photos… showing them to their kids… their grandchildren.  I personally love looking at old family photos, so I am glad this trend of having family memories professionally documented has taken off.

My own little man turned 9 months TODAY!  It is so crazy how time flies.  He is standing (holding onto something), crawling, sounding out words (BAAAAAAA for “ball”, CCCCCCCC for “cat”, etc.), knows how to give high fives, kisses (sloppy and open mouth, but still adorable, nonetheless), loves showing his muscles with a loud grunt, already shakes his head no at me, waves “hi” and “bye”, and he LOVES food.  My goodness, does this child love food.  We lovingly refer to him as the “garbage disposal”.  I swear this kid could out eat any of us.  He’s got two bottom teeth, and yesterday I noticed two top ones that will soon make their appearance.  Hopefully soon, so he will sleep a little better.

Anyways!  I will try to get some pictures of him taken today.  In the meantime, here’s a couple of shots from my session with baby Trent.  You can see more on my facebook page: www.facebook.com/colombophotography
