Catching up

I’m ashamed to say how bad I am at updating my blog these days.  I’m bribing the kiddo with Cheerios to keep him busy in the highchair next to me while I type this out.  Spring is taking it’s sweet time getting here, but we have had a few nice days so far this year.  Today’s entry has pictures from two of my babies that I am lucky enough to be able to document their entire first year of life.  Ryker had his 3 month pictures and was a total champ– he was so easy going, and despite spitting up a few times (ohhh don’t you love the 3 month age?  hehe), he was totally cool with letting me stuff him in whatever baskets and put him in whatever ridiculous pose I wanted.  His mama is so sweet.  She brought along some cute props and he got to show off those adorable baby rolls!  Here are a few highlights from his shoot:

I did Trent’s 9 month (!!!) pictures recently also, and oh man is this kid cute.  He is so calm!  An old soul behind those eyes 😉  We had a BEAUTIFUL day to get his photos done and his cousin and aunt were visiting from out of state, so I got to photograph them as well!

(Sorry Trent, had to add that last one, lol.)  I love that I get the opportunity to follow these kids through their milestones.  I so look forward to these sessions to see how much they’ve grown, what their new “tricks” are, and love to see them develop their own little personalities.  It’s always bittersweet at the 1 year mark!  If you or someone you know may be interested in documenting a baby’s first year, here’s a link for more information regarding sessions, prices, etc.  I offer gift certificates as well, so if you’re stumped on what to bring to a baby shower, here’s a good gift idea!  🙂

Sunday mornings

Finally the weekend!  Can I get a hallelujah?!  We had a long, boring week at home.  The good news is that our kitchen, living room and laundry room are no longer a construction zone!  Hopefully the rest of the house will soon be done and we can get back to life as we know it.  I am already dying to spring clean and get some major organization done, but it’s pretty pointless at this point with things being shuffled back and forth between rooms while waiting for the floors to be completed. But soon!

Took some photos this morning while hubby spent time making pancakes and turkey bacon for breakfast.  Kellan spent his time smearing it all over his face and chair, then finally dropping pieces for the ever-hopeful dogs. No where else in the world I would rather be. ❤

“I can’t remember all the times I try to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass…”

Oh baby!

It has been a busy week for my family!  My sister asked me awhile back to take photos when she goes into labor and last Tuesday, Kellan and I rushed to the hospital to wait on the arrival of my little nephew. The two families took over one side of the waiting room as we anxiously waited for news.

It began to snow.  Gorgeous, fat flurries.  We watched from the hospital window.  That was the first time Kellan has seen a nice “real” snow.

After about an hour of waiting, we received a “Test” group text message from my sister… and then nothing.  The anticipation was driving us all mad.  Everyone was glued to their phones waiting for the next message.  We tried to sneak peeks into the nursery, hoping to catch a glimpse of the baby.

Some of us couldn’t hang any longer and had to take a break from all the excitement…..

Finally, the double doors open and my brother-in-law emerged, beaming, grinning ear to ear as he announced that the little guy had been born and that everyone was healthy.

We finally made it back to the room and got to meet the newest addition to the family.  He could not be more perfect.  From his chubby little cheeks down to his little toes.  Weighing 8.13 lbs and 22 inches long.  He has the most beautiful jet black, spikey hair.  He is so sweet and I am so excited to have him finally here.

So without further adieu, here is Rowen Alexander Wolfgang, meeting his family for the first time 🙂

Lily was so excited to introduce him to us.  Kellan is not too sure about him just yet though.

We are all completely smitten with this little guy.  I can’t wait to see him play with Lily and Kellan.  I can’t wait to watch them all grow up together.  I love knowing that they will always have each other, no matter what.

Welcome to the world, Rowen.

**If you are also interested in having photos done for your delivery day, please contact me for more information!**

I took little Trent’s 6 month photos last weekend.  His parents have opted to take advantage of my Baby’s First Year package, which includes a photo session at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months old.  I SO enjoy the babies I am lucky enough to photograph on a regular basis.  I love watching them grow up and I love knowing that years from now, they will be looking back on these photos… showing them to their kids… their grandchildren.  I personally love looking at old family photos, so I am glad this trend of having family memories professionally documented has taken off.

My own little man turned 9 months TODAY!  It is so crazy how time flies.  He is standing (holding onto something), crawling, sounding out words (BAAAAAAA for “ball”, CCCCCCCC for “cat”, etc.), knows how to give high fives, kisses (sloppy and open mouth, but still adorable, nonetheless), loves showing his muscles with a loud grunt, already shakes his head no at me, waves “hi” and “bye”, and he LOVES food.  My goodness, does this child love food.  We lovingly refer to him as the “garbage disposal”.  I swear this kid could out eat any of us.  He’s got two bottom teeth, and yesterday I noticed two top ones that will soon make their appearance.  Hopefully soon, so he will sleep a little better.

Anyways!  I will try to get some pictures of him taken today.  In the meantime, here’s a couple of shots from my session with baby Trent.  You can see more on my facebook page: www.facebook.com/colombophotography

Anyone else freezing their buns off?

Brrrrrrrr, it is SO COLD!  I am so ready for summer already.  Yes, yes, I know we’re only in January.  Well, there is some good news…. I have my home studio up and running!  Whooo!  I had a 1 year old doing a cake smash session the other day and she is such a little cutie!  She was an absolute champ and so fun to photograph.  Here are a couple pictures from her session!

Whoops.

I have been so busy, leaving me hardly any time to update my blog! October was a blur. I had a bunch of photo shoots… families, maternity, babies, employee pictures, a wedding… and who knows what else! This blog has been sorely neglected. I need to try to add some photos and update everything. That’s what I’ll be attempting to do in the next couple weeks! Keep me in mind if you are looking for someone hard to shop for. I have lots of framed artwork for sale and offer gift certificates for photo sessions. Send me a message or an e-mail at anikacolombo@gmail.com and we can find you exactly what you’re looking for! Here are some of the photos I’ve been busying myself with lately:

Coming up, I have some kid portraits, two newborn shoots, and some 6 month photos in the next few weeks. Stay tuned, folks!

New beginnings.

While browsing Facebook one morning a few weeks ago, I came across an ad looking for a home for a Belgian draft horse that had been rescued from a slaughter lot. His name was “John Coffey”. The Green Mile is one of my favorite movies. I chuckled at the pictures of this giant 19 hand horse being ridden through a fast food drive-thru and sent the ad to my husband, who had been half-heartedly searching for a horse of his own to learn with. His immediate response, “Let’s get him!!”

We made the drive 4 hours west to meet John Coffey and instantly fell in love! His owner is probably one of the nicest, sweetest girls I’ve ever met.  She was really heartbroken to let him go, but wanted him to have a job and a purpose.  We decided we wanted to bring him home and after a 12 hour road trip in the rain, we unloaded the big guy off the trailer and into our back yard.

The other horses were NOT impressed. The girls have been chasing him away any time he gets close, but he has been persistent and subtle, and each day he is slowly allowed closer and closer to the herd.  Today was the first day with sunshine since he arrived, so I was finally able to get some decent photos of him.  He was very interested in the baby and his stroller.  The baby, however, was not very amused.

I am so impressed with this guy. He is quiet and steady. He thinks before he reacts and he is so curious and so trusting. He has these big, brown eyes and this drooling, droopy lip. His feet are gigantic, but he is careful and gentle around you. I can’t imagine a world where this beautiful soul would end up as the last horse standing in a slaughter lot. I can’t imagine how much abuse he has taken over the years at the hands of humans he somehow trusts today. His tail was cut off and he has scars from pulling in a harness, but he was saved by an amazing girl who gave him a chance…. gave us a chance… and now he will have an awesome life here.

My loves (yeah, yeah, yeah, barf alert).

I love the weekends, even when my husband is usually driving me crazy.  We aren’t the typical lovey-dovey couple in public, we always tease each other and we both have a crass sense of humor most of the time, but we have our own thing and it works for us.  I don’t say it enough, but he takes such good care of us and has always supported my newest venture/hobby/obsessions, no matter how crazy they seem to anyone else.  We went on a trip this weekend and I snapped this photo of him and the baby in the hotel.  I absolutely adore it.  He’s a good dad and Kellan and I are lucky to have him.

And of course, here are a couple photos of our handsome man.  Even though he never (ever… EVER…)  lets me sleep, this little smile is enough to get me through the day.
